NORFOLK IN LATE AUTUMN
13th – 14th November 2008
26th 27th November 2009

We'll set off early morning to get a good start on our journey, by staying mid week we should miss the large crowds and busy hides that are often a feature of the North Norfolk Coast at weekends. We'll head straight to our hotel check in and quickly unload before spending the rest of the day birding at some of the regions best sites. Birds could include Common Crane, Shorelark, Lapland Bunting and Twite at their favoured wintering sites. Raptors should also be a feature, with Hen and Marsh Harrier both wintering in the area as do Peregrine, Merlin and Short-eared Owl, in some years Rough-legged Buzzard also occur. Large numbers of wildfowl will be present and should include Whooper Swan, Pink-footed & Brent Goose, Pintail, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal and Shoveler. In addition there's a good chance of a rarity such as, Yellow-browed & Pallas Warbler, Firecrest or Richards Pipit.

Next day after breakfast we'll check out of the hotel and head west along the coast visiting a few sites along the way until we reach the RSPB's flagship reserve of Titchwell. Here we'll have another chance of many of the birds mentioned above and in addition we should see Little Egret and possibly Cetti's Warbler. We'll also have a look on the sea where rafts of Common Scoter sometimes hold small numbers of Velvet Scoter and Long-tailed Duck occur. Divers and rare grebes are also often encountered and there could still be the odd Skua lingering offshore. On the reserve itself there should be a good selection of waders including Purple Sandpiper, Turnstone, Knot, Sanderling, Curlew, Grey & Golden Plover, Ruff and both Bar & Black-tailed Godwit.

Although this short break will be spent looking at the regular wintering and passage birds of the area at a steady relaxed pace, should a good rarity be discovered nearby; as they often do at this time of the year, we will where possible make all efforts to see it.
