NIGHTJAR WALKS
13th & 27th JUNE

This is an opportunity to join us on one of two evening walks in North Nottinghamshire, which should last aproximatly 2 and a half hours. From our meeting point close to Worksop, we will pick you up by car or minibus and take you to the site close to Sherwood Forest where, with our years of experience we have an excellent chance of seeing birds such as Tree Pipit, Woodlark, Green Woodpecker and Tawny Owl. We will also be able to enjoy good views of Woodcock overhead, as they perform their display flight known as 'Roding' .

The highlight of the evening however will be the mysterious and enigmatic Nightjar. First we should start to hear the bird singing, a strange and far carrying song known as ‘Churring'. Usually 10 to 15 minutes later birds begin to appear on the wing, allowing us good views as they hawk effortlessly over the heath in search of moths. Wing clapping is also frequently observed.
